I had a lot of time to think during Winnipeg Jets’ win over the Dallas Stars last night.
I had time to think because the final score was 8-2.
This is an exciting time for the NHL. There are lots of young players that are making this game exciting.
Patrick Laine scored three of the Winnipeg goals. Laine, who is 18 years old, is tied for fifth in NHL scoring. His teammate, 23-year-old Mark Scheifele, leads the league in scoring right now with 18 points in 14 games. Meanwhile 19-year-old Connor McDavid, of the Oilers, is third in league scoring.
The game is still being dominated by offensive systems, and teams “collapsing the net” in their own end.
The days of the odd man rush and end-to-end play that we witnessed a few years ago are by no means back; however, this season NHL fans are seeing some up and comers that are worth the price of admission.
