After a decade of waiting, Capital Pointe appears to finally be inching closer to becoming a reality.
After the previous developers were unable to make much progress with the development, Fortress Real Developments said the construction is underway.
“We got more accomplished in the first year and a bit of owning this site than the previous owners did in almost 10 years,” said CEO of Fortress Real Developments Jawad Rathore.
Rathore also said they have completed year one in a 1,000 day construction plan they had set out.
The building will have almost 190 condo suites and 140 hotel rooms. The condos range from $194,000 to a 3 million dollar penthouse.
Construction hasn’t been smooth, despite the process finally beginning.
Kerry McCormick with ITC construction said they found a bunch of concrete foundation they weren’t expecting to run into and with how wet the summer was.
“We feel we’re over all that now so we’re on our way to the bottom of the hole and the next thing you’ll see is the tower crane going up,” McCormick said.
The project is being built on the site of the former Plains Hotel.
The crane is expected to be up in January.
People are able to purchase condos now and those who already have from the previous developer are able to get a refund if they wish to do so.
“The previous owners, they left a heck of a mess here and a stain on the reputation of this amazing building and we’ve worked our tails off the last 2 years to really demonstrate all the good that could happen here,” Rathore said.
Rathore said people can expect to be able to move into the building in two years.
