This may sound strange, but I’m already hoping for Ottawa to get to the 2017 Grey Cup game.
No, it’s not because they don t have a chance against Calgary this weekend. It’s because next year’s championship game is in the nation’s capital.
Ottawa has an intelligent fan base that knows pro football when they see it. Since the CFL returned to Ottawa, the relationship between fan and team has been fantastic.
On Sunday, the RedBlacks will make a second straight appearance in the Grey Cup.
Last Sunday, in the eastern final, TD Bank Stadium was sold for the 12th consecutive time.
The team has given the city winning football and the fans have given the team their entertainment dollars in return.
It’s not easy to get to three straight Grey Cup games. The last team to do that was the Montreal Alouettes from 2008 to 2010.
But if the RedBlacks can get to the Grey Cup in 2017, an already solid team-fan bond will only be stronger.
