The Manitoba Bisons hockey teams proved to be a tough test for the Saskatchewan Huskies men’s and women’s teams.
On the men’s side, the Huskies took the first of a double-header 2-1 in overtime on Friday. Colby Harmsworth scored the winner in OT. Jesse Forsberg scored the other Huskies goal while Daniel Wapple made 25 saves for the win in his first career start.
Saturday’s rematch saw the Bisons take control for a 5-2 win. Manitoba took a 2-0 lead in the second period and never looked back. Parker Thomas and Jordan Tkatch scored for the Huskies, whose record moves to 9-3-2 after the weekend split.
Back home in Saskatoon, the Huskies women’s team lost 2-1 in double-overtime on Friday and 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. Kaitlin Willoughby scored the lone Huskies goal on Friday while Emily Upgang and Bailee Bourassa had the goals on Sunday.
The two hockey teams will both face Alberta on Friday and Saturday. The men are at home while the women are off to Edmonton.
