A 20-year-old man is facing three charges of attempted murder after a violent attack Thursday night that sent a Regina cab driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police received several calls of a person in distress and were called to the 2100 block of Park Street around 9:20 p.m. Police said a number of people were on the scene near a parked car when officers arrived. People were trying to help a man with injuries.
Police said it appears an altercation occurred inside the cab and continued, even though the driver stopped and tried to get out of the vehicle.
Three men were taken to hospital, including the 31-year-old cab driver who remains in a coma. A GoFundMe campaign, to raise money for the family of the cab driver was started and has raised more than $13,000 since it was started on Friday.
Police had also received information about a man behaving suspiciously on the service road in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue east. The man was arrested and was taken into custody.
Leroy Aaron Redwood, 20, of Calgary, Alta., has been charged with three charges of attempted murder and four charges of breach of recognizance.
He appeared in court in Regina on Monday morning.
