The government of Saskatchewan is near an agreement with the federal government on emissions.
Ottawa announced last week that coal-generated plants would be phased out by 2030.
It has been announced that the province has almost reached an equivalency agreement that would in principle allow Saskatchewan to continue to use coal, so long as it reaches emissions targets and continue toward a green future.
SaskPower has a plan to be 50 per cent renewable power by 2030.
Nova Scotia has a similar agreement that exempts the province from the coal plant phase out.
That province must hit targets of a 25 per cent reduction in greenhouse gases by 2020 and a 55 per cent reduction by 2030.
