980 CJME announced on Thursday it will be the exclusive radio broadcaster in Saskatchewan for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
980 CJME will have live coverage and play-by-play of all Team Canada games, including the round-robin games, the playoffs and the bronze and gold medal games.
Team Canada’s first game will be on Boxing Day against Russia. The Canadian team will play the United States on New Years Eve.
WHL players trying out for the team
Thirty-two players have been invited to try out for Team Canada.
Connor Ingram, who is from Imperial, Sask., is one of three goalies trying out for the team.
Regina Pats forward Austin Wagner and his teammate Sam Steel have also been invited to the camp. Brett Howden of the Moose Jaw Warriors also got an invite.
Moose Jaw Warriors head coach Tim Hunter will be one of the assistants for Team Canada. He called Wagner and Steel gifted players.
“I saw both Austin and Sam last year and they were really good hockey players. They have taken their game to another level this year,” Hunter said.
Hosting duties to this years tournament will be split between Montreal and Toronto. Training camp starts Dec. 10 in Blainville, Que.
