It could be good news for the Stoughton area, as a U.S. energy company takes steps to put a refinery there.
Quantum Energy Inc. said it has created a Canadian subsidiary, Dominion Energy Processing Group Inc., to develop, build, and run an oil refinery near Stoughton. Keith Stemler has been named as Dominion’s CEO.
The refinery would create 40,000 barrels per day and would make retail gasoline, ultra-low-sulfur diesel, and jet fuel, according to the subsidiary’s website.
In a news release, Quantum Energy said local and provincial governments have been very supportive of the project and have helped it move along.
This isn’t a sure thing however, Stemler said in the release there are still some things that have to be done to get the project to the permitting and engineering stage.
The refinery near Stoughton is part of a plan from Quantum Energy Inc. to build five refineries within the Bakken oil formation. The company’s website said it already has land option agreements in North Dakota and Montana.
