More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
This toque-wearing, scarf donning, plug-in-the-car weather in Saskatchewan has some staying power.
“Cold air is, you know, it’s hard to get rid of it. It’s sort of like molasses. It just hugs the ground, fills all the nooks and crannies. It’s very dense and heavy and it’s hard to kick it out,” said David Phillips, chief meteorologist with Environment Canada.
Temperatures won’t peak any higher than the mid minus 20’s through Friday and into the weekend.
“It’s the kind of temperatures that you’d find up in Tuktoyaktuk. There’s no moderation. There’s nothing to warm these temperatures as they come southward,” Phillips added.
With the holidays approaching and barely a skiff of snow on the ground Thursday, Phillips said a white Christmas is still likely.
“My sense is that I would never bet against a white Christmas in Saskatchewan and my sense is when I take a look, there is a lot of time to come,” Phillips said.
Phillips said he defines a white Christmas as having a least 2 cm of snow on the ground on December 25th.
