Near year-long Regina investigation leads to manslaughter charge

A 28-year-old man is being charged with manslaughter after an investigation into a 2015 death.

The investigation began on Dec. 19, 2015, when Regina police were called to a house on the 1000 block of Argyle Street for a report of a deceased male, who was identified as 34-year-old Calvin Aaron Wahweaye.

Police said the investigation led to the identification of an individual who was present in the house during an argument and a physical assault on Wahweaye.

Police said they had enough evidence to charge the 28-year-old man with manslaughter.

Attempts to locate the man in Regina were unsuccessful. Police requested a province-wide warrant, which eventually became Canada-wide.

Police learned the man was in court in Alberta for other criminal matters.

Police said once the court matters are dealt with, the warrant will be executed and the man will be returned to Regina to face the manslaughter charge.

Police said they have been in contact with Wahweaye’s family to keep them updated with the developments in the case.

Police are not releasing the name of the accused until the warrant has been executed and there is a court date in Regina.

This now becomes Regina’s ninth homicide of 2015.
