A late third-period goal and a perfect shootout put the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 Friday night.
With the loss, the Wheat Kings hold their lead ahead of Saskatoon in the standings.
Markson Bechtold (6) scored in his first game as a Blade. Both Bechtold and Evan Fiala made their debuts in the first game since the trade that sent Blades captain Wyatt Sloboshan to Spokane.
Lukus MacKenzie (4) added to the scoring in the second period. The Blades held the lead until the 3:32 mark of the third period, when Reid Duke forced overtime.
Neither team could find the winner, leaving a shootout to decide things. Both Brandon players would score while Blades shooters Braylon Shmyr and Michael Farren failed to convert.
Brock Hamm stopped 28 of 30 shots in regulation in the loss.
Both teams go back at it again Saturday night, this time in Saskatoon. Puck-drop is 7:05 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
