Thousands of people will hit the highways for Christmas this weekend, but weather conditions might not be favourable for drivers.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for southeast Saskatchewan beginning Christmas Day.
“Heavier snow starts to move in on Sunday so we’re looking at a Colorado low that will be moving through the States on Sunday and affecting southeastern Saskatchewan, specifically or especially Sunday afternoon into Monday morning,” Environment Canada’s John Paul Cragg said.
Environment Canada is calling for up to 15-20 centimetres of snow. Combined with a strong wind, visibility could be reduced to near zero at times.
The system is not expected to reach Regina, but all of southern Manitoba could be affected.
The rest of the province will see a “large swath of snow” on Christmas Eve.
“But it doesn’t look very heavy,” Cragg said.
“It could bring a general five centimetres of snow from almost Saskatoon all the way down into the border.”
