3 sent to hospital after stolen car crashes into sign post: Saskatoon police

Three young women were sent to hospital after a car crashed into a sign post early Thursday morning.

Saskatoon police later confirmed the vehicle involved was stolen overnight from the eastside of the city.

The collision happened at 22nd Street and Avenue F around 5:46 a.m.

The Saskatoon Fire Department said rescue crews used hydraulic spreading tools to access three girls, ages 16, 17 and 18, who were trapped inside the vehicle.

All three were taken to Royal University Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Saskatoon police asked drivers to avoid the area as they investigate. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Additionally, police confirmed a cruiser responding to the scene was also involved in a crash.

Two officers heading south on Idylwyld Drive activated their emergency lights before going through a red light.  The cruiser collided with another vehicle heading east on Jamieson Street.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

The sign post collision was the third incident on 22nd Street the same morning.

Earlier, a vehicle with three people inside hit a concrete barrier by Fairmont Drive and flipped on its roof. An 18-year-old driver has been charged with texting and driving in the collision.

Shortly after, an 18-year-old woman rolled her vehicle on 22nd Street near Confederation Drive. She was released on scene without injury.
