It’s going to be a bang-up New Year’s Eve in Saskatoon.
The City is putting on YXE-NYE-150 this year. The event is headlined by a fireworks show for families at 8:17 p.m. on Saturday, launched from Broadway Bridge.
The organizers chose the timing to honour Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, as 8:17 p.m. translates to 20:17 on a 24-hour clock.
Broadway Bridge will be shut down to traffic from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for the extravaganza.
Organizer Shad Ali told 650 CKOM there will also be events at the Bessborough Hotel and in Kiwanis Memorial Park, including the building of ice sculptures and musical performances.
Saskatonians will also be able to wish Canada a “happy birthday” by following a Chinese tradition.
“People can come down write a birthday wish for Canada on a red ribbon to put on a tree,” Ali said.
650 CKOM will also be part of the event, with a musical medley tied to the fireworks display. You can listen live through your car radio, or on your smartphone.
