Rent reduced for riders, early budget items approved by Regina Council

Council retroactively slashed $1.33 million in rent owed by the Roughriders.
It took a spike belt to stop an alleged drunken joyride, according to Regina police.
The arrest happened just before midnight on Monday, Jan 2.
Police said officers observed a car speeding with its headlights and tail lights out.
Shortly after it was seen on Broad Street and 8th Avenue, another police officer spotted the vehicle heading west on Victoria Avenue, apparently speeding and swerving.
Police said the car was stopped, but officers were unable to safely approach the vehicle to make the arrest.
The driver then took off again and ignored another traffic stop, according to police.
That’s when an officer used a spike belt.
Police said the vehicle was eventually stopped in the area of 11th Avenue and McIntyre Street.
The driver was arrested without further incident.
Gina Lucille Whiteman, a 42-year-old woman from the Fort Qu’Appelle area, was charged with impaired driving, evading police and refusing to provide a breath sample.
She was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19.
