Saskatoon Fire Department is reminding residents to avoid the ice on the South Saskatchewan River after a man ventured out Thursday afternoon.
The departments says they received reports of a man walking on the ice near University Bridge around 3 p.m.
A firefighter in a dry suit approached the man with a water rescue craft on standby when he broke through to his waist.
The man was able to pull himself out of the river, and the firefighter helped him to safety.
