Frigid temperatures will be around for at least one more day before warmer weather makes its way to Saskatchewan.
Most of Saskatchewan was under an extreme cold weather warning Wednesday morning with windchills reaching below -45 C.
Justin Shaer, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said he expected warmer air coming into the province would allow the warning to be lifted by noon.
But Shaer said the reprieve won’t be lasting long.
“Unfortunately, on the backside of the system that’s bringing the quick bit of warm air, we’re getting some strong northwest winds, about 40 gusting to 60 kilomteres an hour on the backside of it,” Shaer said.
“A bit of blowing snow with that and also temperatures will be plummeting right back down to what we’re seeing (Wednesday).”
Shaer said the winds will reduce visibility on the highways.
He said the weekend will see things start to turn around, with temperatures hovering around zero next week.
“There’s going to be a nice general warming up over the prairies.”
The warmer weather is expected to last about a week before temperatures drop closer to normal for this time of year.
