The New Year took a quick turn for the better for one Melville couple.
Kelly Klus was settling in for the evening on New Year’s Day and started playing a Western Millions Scratch N’ Win ticket while her partner Kevin Tank chose a movie.
It was then she saw something she had never seen before – a $1-million win.
“I just sat there and said,’OK, look at this ticket.’ And then his mouth dropped and yeah – this is all shocking,” Klus said.
They didn’t wait long before heading to the store and verifying they were, in fact, $1 million richer.
The couple were revealed as Saskatchewan’s newest millionaires at a news conference in Regina on – wait for it – Friday, Jan. 13.
Klus and Tank said they plan to put some money away for a comfortable retirement, but they also plan to enjoy some of their good fortune now.
“Nothing right at the moment – probably put it in the bank, but quite possibly a pair of spiders later on for going for a little cruise,” Tank said, referring to the Fiat Spider model of car.
The couple are also planning a big family trip possibly to the Bahamas – and definitely a shopping trip to New York.
Tank purchased the winning plyer choice mega pack at Prairie Co-operative Ltd. in Melville.
Melville is located around 50 kilometres southwest of Yorkton.
