For students in the Bedford Road Collegiate photography club, the school’s annual basketball showcase means one thing: photos, photos and more photos.
The Bedford Road Invitational Tournament, or BRIT, sees 12 teams from across Canada competing. Packed stands and eye-popping feats on the court are perfect elements for aspiring photographer Renae Brooman.
“I throw (my camera) on sports mode and put my shutter speed really high to shoot those moments,” she said, adding tip-offs and free throws often provide good opportunities for shots.
This will be the first time taking on BRIT for a few of the club’s budding photographers.
“Photography is a way of expressing yourself through a lens,” said Isha Noor. “I really like that because I haven’t had that experience because it’s my first year.”
While the tournament atmosphere can be challenging, it can also lead to some one-of-a-kind images.
“The planned picture never becomes a perfect one,” said student Hafsa Tanveer. “That’s why I like unplanned action shots.”
BRIT started Thursday afternoon and runs through Saturday at Bedford Road Collegiate. The tournament final will be broadcast Saturday at 9 p.m.on Shaw TV.
