The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released international linebacker Jeff Knox Junior.
The team said in a news release Saturday this is so Knox can pursue an NFL opportunity.
Knox signed with the Riders in May, 2015, and has spent the last two seasons in Saskatchewan. He collected 179 defensive tackles, 30 special teams tackles, one interception and one quarterback sack in 35 regular season games.
After the 2015 season, Knox was named the Riders Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, and Most Outstanding Rookie after setting a single season franchise record with 114 defensive tackles.
Knox was to be a free agent on Feb. 14.
