Kids testing out new museum exhibits in Saskatoon

The new PotashCorp children’s museum is coming to Saskatoon by 2018.

It will be moving to the Mendel building when the art gallery moves to the Remai Modern.

A few special kids had a VIP experience of the prototype exhibits such as ‘Toon Town’

“I had so much fun,” said Kessandra Werner, one of the many kids who checked it out Friday night at North Park Wilson School “I loved playing shopping and camping.”

“Having a place in Saskatoon where kids can be kids, touch everything, and use their imaginations is going to be amazing,” said Kessandra’s mom, Kristy Werner. “Watching my kids play with the prototype was exciting as I can feel the museum coming to life.”

“Don’t touch are words that are never said, we encourage kids to touch everything,” said the museums Director of Development Shannon Harnett. “It’s a proven fact that kids learn best from hands-on discovery built for them.”

Argyle Design from Brooklyn, N.Y. was in Saskatoon to see what kids like and don’t like.

“This is really good information to make the best kid-friendly exhibit we can make,” Harnett said. “The energy in the room was amazing and the kids were so excited.”

Kids can be a chef, carpenter, or even a grocery store clerk in ‘Toon Town’.

The Mendel is 10 times larger than the current museum in Market Mall according to Harnett.

Once it’s open the museum will include Northern Lights, Toon Town, The Climber and Subterranea, as well as art space and play areas.

Although all the tickets are sold out to see the ‘Toon Town’ prototype, there will be an opportunity this summer to get another sneak peak.

About $6 million of their $10 million fundraising goal has been raised for the museum, but they still need the public to donate the other $4 million.
