There was a pizza party for the homeless Saturday afternoon at the Lighthouse and Friendship Inn in Saskatoon.
“The comments were overwhelming,” said Co-ordinator for Saskatoon’s Humanity First branch Rashid Ahmed. “It made us feel really good.”
It was part of their “Feed the Homeless” campaign as an act of kindness.
“Some of the people said ‘we’re eating pizza for the first time’ that made me really excited,” Ahmed said.
Humanity First regularly serves food to thousands of homeless individuals per month.
“I was so excited to see their excitement when we provided pizza to them,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed said they went through 100 pizzas in four hours.
“I got a big hug from a guy and he told me we were doing a really good job,” he said. “I could feel their hunger.”
Ahmed said his group plans to do more for the homeless this winter.
“It’s important to help people out in the hard times,” he said.
