A flow of warm Pacific air has taken the province out of the deep freeze and into a warm spell.
A total of seven communities set high temperatures records on Tuesday:
Elbow 4.5 C – (3.8 C in 1958)
Watrous 4.2 – (2.7 C in 2014)
Maple Creek 13.4 C (10.6 C in 1923)
Colins Bay 2.3 C – (-1.2 C in 1981)
Key Lake 3.0 C – (-0.4 C in 2009)
La Ronge 6.0 C – (2.2 C in 1928)
Stoney Rapids 1.3 C – (-3.3 in 1965)
It was not a recording-breaking Jan. 17 for Saskatoon and Regina.
Saskatoon’s 1923 record of 5 C remained intact with the temperature climbing to 3.1 C on Tuesday. Regina just missed setting a new record, with the mercury peaking at 3.8 C. The record is 4.2 C set back in 1991.
Mike McDonald with Environment Canada said more temperature records could be in jeopardy this week as a southwesterly flow continues pushing warm air into the province.
“There’s nothing moving that out of the way for the next four or five days.”
“We’re looking at temperatures well above freezing right into the weekend.”
