Right until the bitter end, some Saskatchewan Roughrider fans were hoping quarterback Darian Durant would not sign with the Montreal Alouettes and rejoin his old CFL team.
How illogical is that?
From the moment the Als traded for Durant, there was a contractual agreement in place. Montreal announced the signing yesterday.
Arash Madani reports that Durant has now signed a three-year deal worth $1.25 million, with a substantial signing bonus and $400,000 guaranteed for the first year. That’s what Durant wanted from the Riders, but they wouldn’t give in because they were worried about his ability to stay healthy. The Riders wanted Durant’s salary based heavily on his performance.
The Alouettes weren’t as wary. They needed a proven quarterback to make them competitive again. Now the Alouettes have stabilized their most important position while the Roughriders scour the world for a replacement.
