City of Regina to begin pruning elm trees around General Hospital

The City of Regina will begin pruning elm trees in the area around the General Hospital Monday.

In a news release, the city said the American elms in that neighbourhood are amongst the oldest and most stately in Regina. Pruning will help the trees grow and remain healthy for years to come.

The last time the trees in that neighbourhood were pruned was in 2006.

Over 1,000 trees will be pruned during this project, covering the area between Broad Street to Winnipeg Street, and Victoria Avenue to College Avenue.

The city confirmed there will be some parking restrictions around the hospital for the next six to eight weeks. Toronto Street will be one of the first ones affected. Bright orange No Parking signs will be posted in the area during the project.

The city said it has engaged with the hospital and community school as part of its precautions to minimize disruptions. For the safety of residents and visitors in the area, parking will be restricted when pruning takes place between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
