Pats down Swift Current 6-5

The Pats powerplay went 3 for 4 Saturday night to help propel them over their division rivals, the Swift Current Broncos. 

Fresh off a disheartening 8-5 loss at the Brandt Centre Friday evening, the Pats were able to regroup Saturday and pull out the 6-5 win. 

Goaltender Jordan Hollett returned from a leg injury that sidelined him for weeks and made 26 saves the game. 

Jake Leschyshyn led off the scoring for the night, fed from defenceman Jonathan Smart to put the Pats up 1-0 in the first, but less than two minutes later, Swift Current answered. 

Riley Stotts and Aleksi Heponiemi scored 41 seconds apart to give the Broncos the 2-1 lead. 

After that, the Pats defencemen got into the action, with Josh Mahura notching his first goal as a Regina Pat and Chase Harrison scoring an unassisted powerplay goal to give the Pats a 4-2 lead going into the second period. 

Unfazed, Swift Current came back in the second period on all cylinders. Glenn Gawdin scored twice in the frame, while Heponiemi scored his second of the night. Sam Steel managed to get one on for the Pats which left Regina down 5-4 going into the third. 

Dawson Leedahl took advantage of the Pats fourth powerplay of the night, scoring the tying goal with six minutes left in the third period. 

Ninety seconds later, Connor Hobbs scored the game winner to seal the game for the Pats. Hobbs also received first star honours. 

The Pats travel back to Regina for a 4pm match up against Brandon on Sunday. It will be the last home game in nearly two weeks for Regina who will head out on a short Alberta swing and returning to the Brandt Centre Feb 4.
