Small but mighty group march in Regina for women's rights

A small but mighty group of women, men and children marched in Regina to show their support for the people taking part in the Women’s March on Washington.

Organizer Helen Pridmore said she initially messaged a couple of her friends, but with the power of social media, more people came out to walk alongside her.

“Word got out on social media and it became bigger, and we’re very happy about that,” said Pridmore.

“We should work together now and not work separately and not be dividing people and try to make this world get through these difficult times we seem to be in.”

The main message Pridmore wanted to get across was that they stand in solidarity to show they promote love, not hate.

“I think that’s a message that has spread really widely around the world,” said Pridmore.

“Since, you know, things like the U.S. election, things like Brexit that seem to be pulling people apart, I think this march is intended to try and draw people together.”

Hundreds of Canadians were reported to be at the march in Washington, D.C. alongside over an estimated 500,000 people.

Up in Saskatoon, that city witnessed one of the biggest crowds for a women’s rights rally as over 800 people took part in the movement.
