A 28-year-old man has been charged after a late night car crash in Saskatoon.
Police said a 1986 Chrysler New Yorker was reported stolen around 10:50 p.m. Monday.
The owner left the vehicle running out front of a pub in the city’s Nutana neighbourhood and returned to find it gone, according to a police released issued Tuesday morning.
From there, police got a call from MD Ambulance just after 11 p.m. Paramedics told police they’d come across a New Yorker that had been in an accident at the intersection of Clarence Avenue South and Circle Drive.
The suspect ran a red light and crashed into a second vehicle before taking off on foot, according to police. Officers reportedly found him a short distance away and arrested him.
Paramedics took the suspect to hospital to treat a minor cut to his face from the crash. From there, he was brought to the Saskatoon police holding cells and given a breath test.
The suspect, who hails from St. Louis, Sask., was charged with theft of a vehicle, criminal hit-and-run, driving while impaired, driving with a blood alcohol level over .08 and possession of cocaine.
He is due to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday.
Police reported that no one was seriously injured in the crash.
