Police say suspects pointed shotgun at officer during chase in stolen car

Charges are pending against three people after a tense situation in a Saskatoon neighbourhood Wednesday.

One of the suspects arrested was 25-year-old Curtis Kevin Morin. Saskatoon police issued a Canada-wide warrant last week for Morin, who was wanted for murder in the stabbing death of 29-year-old Bailey Lonechild on Jan. 17.

Heavily-armed officers along with a police dog were on scene in Westmount responding to a report of suspects with a shotgun driving in a stolen vehicle.

A day earlier, a man reported to police he was robbed at gunpoint at a 3rd Avenue convenience store. The suspect allegedly stole the man’s 2002 Mazda Protégé.

Around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, a patrol officer spotted the stolen car in the area of Avenue B North and 38th Street.

Police said the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but three suspects inside the car refused to stop. They allegedly pointed a shotgun at him on two occasions.

The suspects evaded police for several blocks before abandoning the car at 31st and Avenue I North.

Two of them were caught and immediately arrested. A shotgun was recovered on scene.  

A police dog helped find the third suspect hiding under a deck nearby.  

Charges are pending against the three.  

As officers were searching for the suspects, the school in the area took safety precautions. Those ended around noon.
