Henry Burris to speak at U of S Huskies' fundraiser

Smiling Hank will pay a visit to Saskatoon in May.
 
The reigning Grey Cup MVP and now-retired Ottawa Redblacks quarterback will be the guest speaker at this year’s Houghton Boston Dogs’ Breakfast at Prairieland Park on May 4.
 
“He’s a great guy, a great family man (and) had success on the field and it’s a boon to have him here,” said Scott Flory, co-head coach of the U of S Huskies football team.

Burris is coming off his third Grey Cup win in November and threw for more than 63,000 passing yards over an 18-year football career.

On Tuesday, the quarterback shared his excitement about the Saskatoon invite with 650 CKOM host Brent Loucks.

“To be there in Saskatoon, a place that I remember vividly just from my first year of training camp with the Riders back in 2000 – I’m looking forward to getting back,” Burris said.

The former Rider added he has always held a special place in his heart for the prairie province.

“I’m thankful that I’m one of the few people who can say, ‘Yeah I was part of the great things that happened in Saskatchewan with the Roughriders,’” he said.

Burris noted even though the battle lines were clearly drawn on the field, he always looked forward to catching up with friends.

“Off the field and away from the games, I would see all sorts of people that I remember from my days here. People that I made new friendships with, even have a couple of cold ones with or whatever following a game,” Burris said.

The Houghton Boston Dogs’ Breakfast is a fundraiser that supports a scholarship foundation for football players at the University of Saskatchewan.
