After watching one of the greatest football games ever, I thought about a few things from the Patriots’ dramatic overtime victory against Atlanta.
First, the debate is over. Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback ever.
The NFL really needs to change the overtime format. A coin toss shouldn’t have that big an impact on the championship game. Atlanta needed to stop them, but Matt Ryan and Julio Jones not getting a chance to play in overtime is a shame.
Thank goodness the NFL doesn’t allow coaches to challenge penalties. Was there illegal contact on some critical plays? Potentially. But I didn’t miss the unnecessary delays.
Wow! Did fans in Houston give it to Commissioner Roger Goodell? Good! I think they spoke for a number of fans, on a number of different topics, especially suspending Brady for those deflated footballs greater than he did Michael Floyd and others for actual crimes!
Atlanta fans, I feel for you. But just think. Your team has an elite quarterback, star receivers, running backs and a defense that’s getting better.
The Falcons will be contenders for a few more years yet.
Finally, overtime in the Super Bowl and Grey Cup – what a football season.
Is it June yet?
