A couple days after the Super Bowl and it’s ludicrous that New England Patriots fans still think the NFL’s overtime rules don’t need changing.
Take this from someone who didn’t care who won – the NFL’s overtime rules are idiotic. It showed when the Patriots were the only team that held the football after winning a coin toss.
New England quarterback Tom Brady was masterful in overtime, earning the game’s MVP honors for marching his team downfield and scoring the decisive touchdown against Atlanta. Meanwhile his counterpart, regular-season MVP Matt Ryan, stood on the sideline and wasn’t given an opportunity to respond. Imagine if it happened the other way around!
Picture a tied baseball game going into the 10th inning. A coin toss decides which team gets to bat and which team plays defence. A Patriots fan would say, “My team will hit. If we score, we win. Your team should have good enough pitching and defence to keep us from scoring.”
If only the NFL wasn’t so arrogant, so conceited, that it makes up rules that contravene everything we’ve every learned about competition and fairness.
