More money, more projects in 2017 proposed residential streets program

Dozens of Regina residential streets are planned to have work done in 2017 and now there’s an idea of which areas will see the construction.

The city has a proposed list of 67 projects, which is one more than 2016. The road repairs will translate into about 19 kilometres worth of work totalling $10.6 million. It’s part of the continued residential road renewal program, where a dedicated one per cent of the yearly tax increase is directed to the initiative.

While there is an estimated $1.3 million more for the program this year, the total distance covered is down around three km. That’s because work is anticipated to be more costly this year.

Most of the projects involve roads in either good or fair condition. Five projects will tackle streets in poor condition. That includes complete rebuilds of Dufferin Road from Durham Drive to Castle Road, Daffodil Crescent from Orchard Crescent to Durham Drive, and Simpson Road from Sunset Drive to Montague Street.

These projects are dependent on the budget, which city council will finalize on Feb. 13.
