While frigid temperatures may cause people to stay indoors, a moving company knows their services are needed even if the weather is around – 40 C.
Mark Newton, owner of Two Small Men With Big Hearts Moving in Regina, said the weather poses a number of challenges.
“You really got to dress more intelligently, really think about how you dress because it’s really cold outside but you’re going to be going inside,” Newton said. “It’s basically like a workout doing our job so your body temperature rises up and you got to be able to shed some layers so you don’t end up sweating so much.”
The snow can also pose a problem, with movers using floor-runners to ensure they don’t track snow inside.
“We even shovel our way to the door if the customer hasn’t done a good job so that you’re not tracking in a lot of snow and stuff.”
The cold temperatures don’t just affect the movers, but the items being moved as well. Newton said the weather can cause the items to become fragile, so they need to use extra care when the weather gets cold.
Newton added the only thing that would stop them from doing their job would be if the moving trucks didn’t start, but he said they take precautions to ensure that doesn’t happen.
“We got heaters to put underneath them and everything if we need to get them started,” Newton said. “That’s the only thing that’s going to stop us, if anything.”
He also had one other thing to say about the frigid weather in Regina.
“I just hope it gets warmer soon.”
