Mid-February to bring 'mild and unseasonably warm' weather to Saskatchewan

After suffering through extreme cold temperatures and wind chills last week, Saskatchewan is finally seeing some warmer weather.

Much of the province is in for mild and unseasonably warm temperatures for the next week.

“We’ve got a lot of mild Pacific air streaming across the Rocky Mountains and that should persist right through the next seven days at least,” Environment Canada meteorologist James Cummine said.

While Cummine said he couldn’t see any cold snaps in the immediate future – the seven-to-10 day range Environment Canada is confident using – he said any cold snaps the province could experience won’t be as severe.

“The days are getting longer, the sun is getting stronger so even if you get into cold, it’s not usually as cold and it’s certainly not as persistent,” he said. “You’re by the stretch of really persistent cold weather.”

Looking at the long-term, Cummine said Saskatchewan is in for some warmer weather than one of its neighbours.

“It looks like Saskatchewan remains warm but Manitoba, on the other hand, could be a little iffy as there is some cold air that comes in out of the north. It looks like it all stays to the east of Saskatchewan.”
