A 27-year-old man from Carrot River, Sask., is facing charges after a chase early Sunday morning in Regina.
Regina police said the incident happened around 3:32 a.m. when the driver of a Honda Civic allegedly fled from police in Assiniboia and Moose Jaw before heading to Regina.
Regina police spotted the vehicle in the city’s west end, according to a media release issued Wednesday.
Officers were able to get a look at the driver in the Harbour Landing shopping area.
Police said the driver and a passenger abandoned the car in an alley on the 2800 block of Wascana Street a short time later. A K-9 team reportedly found the driver in a backyard nearby. Police said he appeared to be “very intoxicated.”
David Huntley, 27, of Carrot River, was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, exceeding .08.
Huntley was turned over to RCMP, who charged him with dangerous operation of a vehicle and operating a vehicle while being pursued by a peace officer and failing to stop.
The passenger was not charged.
