The Toronto Argonauts are a mess! Team president Michael Copeland, who was effective when he worked in the CFL office, evidently has no concept for running a franchise.
While other CFL teams are building rosters for the upcoming season, the Argos don’t have a head coach or a general manager. Copeland fired them last month, mere weeks before free agency. And he hasn’t hired replacements. Instead, the Argonauts have an assistant general manager, their defensive co-ordinator and a part-time offensive consultant trying to put together a respectable squad.
No wonder free agents are reluctant to join the Argos. Copeland has told players about his business plans, about his intent to make the Argonauts into the CFL’s version of the New England Patriots. The players would rather hear about game plans, roster additions and offensive schemes. So their eyes glaze over and they join another team, leaving the Argos to face another bleak, pitiful season.
