As soon as word broke that Vince Young’s representatives were talking with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the province got very excited.
Can you imagine a third-overall NFL pick and national college champion at quarterback for the Riders?
In this market, the possibility of Young signing was front page news.
It’s a good move by Chris Jones to see if the former Texas University star has the ability and, more importantly, the passion to compete for a roster spot at camp. He may have the impact on the CFL that Doug Flutie had decades ago.
However, don’t forget we have seen some high-profile NFL types give the CFL a try in the past.
Chad Johnson, Ricky Williams and Lawrence Phillips are all examples of players who came north of the border with varying degrees of success.
If Young signs, it’ll be something new for the Roughriders, but we’ve seen the highly touted give the CFL a shot before.
