Riders add 3 more free agents including receiver Bakari Grant

The Saskatchewan Roughriders continue to add players in free agency, inking receiver Bakari Grant and defensive lineman Zach Minter to deals Tuesday morning.

The Riders also confirmed that linebacker Glenn Love has signed with the team.

Grant comes to the Riders after spending the last season with the Calgary Stampeders. He played 10 regular season games in Calgary, earning 625 yards and four touchdowns. He also played in the West Final and the Grey Cup.

He’s signed a two-year deal with the club.

In his six-season career, Grant has 286 receptions for 3,652 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The Roughriders now seem to have an abundance of receivers fighting for starting spots.

Grant comes in as the 10th international receiver on the Roughriders roster, joining Kadron Boone, Duron Carter, Ricky Collins Jr., Joe Craig, Armanti Edwards, Caleb Holley, Thomas Mayo, Chad Owens and Naaman Roosevelt.

The Riders also have four Canadian receivers on the roster in Robb Bagg, Nic Demski, Kelvin Muamba and Joshua Stanford.

Going into the first game of the 2016 season, the Roughriders had five American receivers and four Canadians on the roster.

On the defensive side of the football, Minter signs with the Riders after also spending 2016 with the Stampeders.

Last season he picked up six defensive tackles and two quarterbacks sacks, starting three of five regular-season games played.

In 2015, with the B.C. Lions Minter started seven of 10 regular season games, earning 16 defensive tackles and three quarterback sacks.

He’s also spent time with the Cowboys, the Bengals, and the Bears. 

It had been rumoured for days that Love had signed with the Riders, but the club released the news officially Tuesday afternoon. 

Love has made a career out of being strong on special teams, and according to Riderville.com hopes to earn a starting role as the weak-side linebacker.

He earned 21 special-teams tackles and 11 defensive tackles in 10 games with Calgary last season. His special teams numbers were good enough for third in the league.
