With the NHL trade deadline a week away, there is once again one name I’ll be watching and almost cheering to see moved to a legitimate contender.
Jarome Iginla.
The Stanley Cup is the only thing missing from a resume that has a Memorial Cup title, gold medals at the World Juniors, World Cup of Hockey, World Championships and Olympics.
Iginla was close in 2004 with the Flames but the soon to be 40-year old is running out of time to finally get his hands on the Stanley Cup.
I’ve never been a fan of any team Jarome Iginla was on. But I was always a fan of him.
A player who was clearly a leader his teammates believed in and a player the opponents dreaded because of his shot, his speed and his toughness.
Jarome Iginla commands respect and I hope the Colorado Avalanche respect him enough to trade him before Wednesday’s trade deadline to a team in contention.
And if a trade is made. Wherever Iginla lands will be the team I want to see win the Cup if only to see Jarome have his Ray Bourque moment.
