The White House will soon learn what some pro sports teams have already learned.
Shutting out the media doesn’t help. The Saskatchewan Roughriders, when they were coached by Danny Barrett, didn’t like the criticism they were receiving. Never mind that the team was losing football games, the Roughriders decided the criticism had to stop. So they locked out the media, limited access to the players and coaches and tried to put on a happy face.
The criticism didn’t stop. Neither did the losing.
Look, the New England Patriots aren’t considered media-friendly, but they tolerate the media attention for numerous reasons. Primarily, it generates attention. In turn, that sells tickets. New England head coach Bill Belichick knows that what happens outside his locker room shouldn’t affect his team’s performance one iota. Barrett never learned that.
If Donald Trump’s White House is operating properly, it should have no problems with being poked, prodded and quizzed by the media. Just like a good sports team.
