A Saskatchewan animator can now cross winning an Oscar off his bucket list.
Andrew Ford from Humboldt, east of Saskatoon, helped animate Disney’s Zootopia. The movie took home best animated film at the 89th Academy Awards Sunday night.
Ford told 980 CJME more than 200 cast and crew members celebrated the win together at Disney Studios Sunday night and the next morning.
“We had a toast to the crew this morning,” said Ford said. “The directors came by with the actual Oscar, so we got to hear their words and their stories from last night and we kind of reflected back on the movies we’ve made in the past year and a half.”
Ford and others were able to take photos with the award, which wasn’t the only piece of hardware the film’s directors brought back.
“They brought the actual academy envelope, just in case, and to assure everyone here that it actually said Zootopia,” Ford said with laughter.
The animator said it was nice to spend time with the crew again, since it had been about a year a half since the film was completed.
“It’s pretty fun to look back and see we were a part of this movie that’s going to be a part of Oscar history forever,” he said.
