It’s easy to criticize the over-hyped mind-numbing day of NHL Trade Deadline. Less and less is going on in the new NHL with many teams still in the mix for the playoffs and already up against the salary cap.
Sportsnet had Ilya Bryzgalov talking about aliens. TSN had Jenn Hedger seeking revenge on Martin Biron for the t-shirt cannon incident from last year.
The show has been more about how they are going to kill time than actual trades.
Yet, it’s harder to criticize when we still watch. The same amount of people watch both networks as they do some CFL games.
The Trade Deadline is slowly dying but don’t expect the networks to kill their coverage.
When fourth-round conditional draft picks are the highest return for most of the trades we know it’s no longer must see TV.
But it’s hockey — and it’s Canada — so we do anyway.
Hoping that mega deal will happen again, though it never will.
