A local paramedic is trading her uniform for an apron on this year’s season of Masterchef Canada.
Saskatoon’s Kimberly Cairns is one of 24 contestants vying to be crowned Canada’s top home chef.
“I’ve just always been able to cook,” she said, on the C95 Morning show Thursday. “My secret weapon is my drive.”
Cairns, a two-time cancer survivor, said it was nerve-wracking being on the show.
“It was even nerve-wracking to prepare for the show,” said the Paramedic who works at MD Ambulance. “I was cooking things I’ve never heard of and just grabbing vegetables, so it was a lot of figuring out.”
The show was taped in Toronto back in September, but Cairns said she was sworn to secrecy about the details.
“I can’t tell you too much other than I don’t know the outcome,” she said.
Cairns said her signature dish is meatballs.
“I’m pretty good at making them, so anything that has a meatball in it, I like cooking it,” she said.
The fourth season of MasterChef Canada premieres Thursday at 8 p.m. on CTV.
