Ernie Polsom is no longer Regina’s fire chief and the search is on to find a permanent replacement.
The city wouldn’t explain why Polsom is no longer with the city because it is a personnel matter, only stating it was not for cause.
The city said they will follow their contractual obligations.
Polsom joined the city in 2014.
A search is currently underway to find a new director of fire and protective services and City Manager Chris Holden said they will be looking at a wide variety of candidates.
“We will be going on a nationwide search to ensure that our fire service has the best qualified candidate from across the country,” Holden said.
The search is expected to last three to six months.
In the mean time, Layne Jackson has been named as the acting fire chief.
Jackson is a 20 year veteran of fire services, including 10 years in Regina.
