It’s not often I cheer when watching sports.
I am a Canadiens fan. I am an Atlanta Falcons fan. I like the Blue Jays. Notice I used the word fan – and not fanatic.
I am just as interested in the Stanley Cup, Super Bowl and World Series when those teams are eliminated.
This brings us to the 2017 Tim Horton’s Brier, where I am openly cheering for Brad Gushue.
During the 2006 Torino Olympics, a 25-year-old Brad Gushue carried himself so well while representing Canada on his way to skipping his team to a gold medal. I don’t know Brad Gushue at all, but since then I’ve wanted to see him do well.
Now, at 36, Gushue is skipping the Newfoundland/Labrador team in St. Johns.
He’s never been skip a Brier-winning team, so it may be a long shot to victory. But I can honestly say I am cheering for the long shot to come through.
