A Regina man will be charged with stealing a vehicle from a house and evading police on Monday.
At around 5 a.m. on March 6, police were dispatched to a house on Leopold Crescent for a report of a report of a break and enter in progress.
The homeowners had called 911 and said their house had been broken into by someone who broke a window on the back door. Police said the suspect grabbed a set of car keys and other items from their house, before taking their car, a white Acura MDX.
Initial investigation pointed towards the suspect being known to the victims.
Different officers had spotted the vehicle a few times in the city driving at high speeds. At one point, police had pulled up behind the Acura at a red light, exited their car and approached the suspect vehicle but it accelerated through the red light and fled.
The Acura was last seen leaving Regina on Highway 11 northbound.
Regina police notified other police agencies of the circumstances and shared the vehicle information.
Later that day, Regina police were notified the suspect had been arrested around 1:15 p.m. by RCMP near Meadow Lake. The vehicle was recovered.
The 29-year-old man will return to Regina on Friday to face break and enter and commit theft, possession of stolen property and dangerous driving charges.
