The Red Wings will host the Kindersley Klippers in Assiniboia on Friday.
TSN’s Gary Lawless summed up the Vince Young signing best when he said there is “no risk” to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
I agree. Chris Jones has landed a high-profile quarterback who is a national college champion and a two time pro-bowler in the NFL.
If Young, who turns 34 in May, has stayed in shape and can adapt to the Canadian game, he can succeed at this level.
If not, he’ll simply be released. He hasn’t started in an NFL game in five years.
Contrary to popular belief, Young’s arrival does not prohibit young quarterbacks from developing for the future. Pivots such as Jake Waters and Brandon Bridge will still get a shot to prove their worth – if not in Saskatchewan, elsewhere.
The challenge for Jones is fans will not stand for another rebuilding year from the Roughriders.
There are high expectations from the Rider Nation. To see if Young, who had success, can help fast track this team to winning football is definitely worth looking into.
