It’s still a longshot that Vince Young will blossom into a CFL quarterback, but there were some cheer-for-him moments during the media conference announcing his signing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
When Young said he missed the game of football, his sincerity shone through. Right beside Young was his wife, Candice, and young son, Jordan. Young said he’s been coaching Jordan’s football team and is thankful that Candice supported his attempt at a comeback. And Young corrected anyone who called it a comeback.
“I wouldn’t call it a comeback,” he said. “I’d call it an opportunity.”
Young said he regretted some of the things he did, some of the things that happened to him when he was younger. And he said he had to grow up. So he did. He’s been working for his alma mater, the University of Texas, and pursuing business opportunities while spearheading a charitable foundation. Throughout it all, he kept realizing he really did miss football. And at age 33 he’s happy to get one more chance.
