McIntosh OT winner wins it for Rush

It was like a great movie with too much back story in the beginning.

The Saskatchewan Rush overcame an early 3-0 hole to beat Colorado 12-11 in overtime on Saturday night.

Ben McIntosh brought the 15, 000 plus at SaskTel Centre to their feet with the game winner.

“It was a lucky goal,” said McIntosh, who put a harmless looking shot on net that found a way to beat Mammoth netminder, Dillon Ward.

“Sort of an end of the shot clock put it on net kind of thing and their goalie played good.”

McIntosh led the Rush with four goals while Mark Matthews added a hat-trick of his own to go with three assists.

Once again, the transition game was also solid for the Rush, who are still undefeated at home. Brett Mydske and John LaFontaine also got in on the scoring on a pair of end to end rushes.

“There wasn’t a lot of penalties tonight so it was a five on five grind and that transition game helped us,” said Rush head coach Derek Keenan.

Aaron Bold made 35 saves in the win. And while the Rush outshot Colorado 63-45, the quality of saves were equal between the two goalies.

Bold’s stop in tight with 11 seconds remaining forced overtime, while the Rush gave up just five goals in a low-scoring second half.

With the win, the Rush hold first place in the West Division with a record of 7-3 while Colorado drops to 6-5.

Saskatchewan takes a week off before returning home to host the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, Mar. 24.
